VIP Series: The Alliance for Community Development

One such organization is The Alliance for Community Development, a Bay-Area based nonprofit working to foster the success of local, traditionally underrepresented entrepreneurs through individualized programming and comprehensive support.

The Alliance for Community Development leverages Verizon’s Small Business Digital Ready platform to equip entrepreneurs with the skills they need to thrive in the age of the internet. Leadership Greater Washington & Verizon: Workforce Development Panel

Verizon was proud to partner with Leadership Greater Washington to host the Workforce Development Panel, focused on Embracing Opportunity. Verizon’s Mario Acosta-Velez moderated an incredible discussion featuring industry leaders who are trailblazers when it comes to workforce development. Their organizations are dedicated to fostering opportunities for DMV residents to thrive through comprehensive programming and targeted services. Verizon Announces Partnership with Onondaga County

Verizon understands that access to high quality internet is a necessity—that’s why Anthony Lewis was pleased to announce Verizon’s groundbreaking partnership with Onondaga County. This investment to expand connectivity will bring broadband to rural residents throughout the county who currently lack this crucial resource. Verizon’s Erica Jacquez at Rowland Heights Buckboard Parade

Verizon participated in Buckboard Days–a community celebration including a parade and festival for all the residents of Rowland Heights, surrounding communities, and schools. 

The theme this year was “50th Golden Anniversary: Back to the Future” and featured a wide array of fun-filled events for the whole community!

Verizon’s Jesús Román at UCLA Global Sports Business Forum

Jesús Román represented Verizon on the Sports Partnerships & Social Impact panel at the inaugural UCLA Global Sports Business Forum. This panel discussion focused on how we make positive change in our communities through sports & sports partnerships. The panel included moderator Sherri Barros, Vice President, Global Sports Brand Alliances, American Cancer Society and Heather Birdsall, Vice President, Community Relations, Los Angeles Chargers. 

To close out the day, we had Luke Wang from our LA 5G Lab highlight how Verizon is at the center of innovating the fan experience.

Verizon’s Matthew Clark @ SciTech’s 2022 Stem & Innovation Summit

SciTech’s 2022 Stem & Innovation Summit was an incredible opportunity to dive into STEM resources, explore tech best practices, illicit community involvement, feature hands-on activities, and more. Verizon’s Matt Clark was thrilled to be featured on a panel to discuss the next era of STEM, and how a wholistic approach to education can foster the next generation of science and technology leaders. Verizon & Mission Tomorrow

Verizon was a proud sponsor for the Richmond Chamber of Commerce’s signature event, Mission Tomorrow. Over the span of two days, 12,000 of the region’s eighth graders explored a wide variety of potential career pathways in high-demand industries through a series of interactive activities and discussions with over 150 area businesses.

At Verizon’s exhibitor booth, students witnessed the strength of Verizon’s 5G connection while playing their favorite games on the Xbox game console. They learned about the 5G network and different types of modems used for connectivity. The students were also immersed in virtual reality through Oculus headsets and experienced the virtual museum Smithsonian exhibit.

Maryland Women’s Business Center – Verizon Tech Policy Center Event

Verizon was proud to welcome representatives from the Maryland Women’s Business Center and entrepreneurs from across Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. for an in-person networking event, as part of the Small Business Digital Ready initiative. The Verizon Small Business Digital Ready program is an online curriculum designed to give small businesses the tools they need to thrive in the digital economy. The program provides learning modules, coaching, networking opportunities, and access to grants—with the overall goal being to support one million small businesses.

Home & Connectivity

On June 14, 2022, Verizon hosted an event “Home & Connectivity” in partnership with the Housing Action Coalition to explore how the residential digital divide can be bridged. Panelists Jackie Flinn, Executive Director at A. Philip Randolph Institute; Dave Hickey, Vice President of West Business Markets for Verizon; and Rey Lachaux, Digital Equity Manager for the City and County of San Francisco, had an illuminating conversation on how we can bring digital equity to every neighborhood. Their conversation explored how public, private, and nonprofit innovations and partnerships are helping to deliver essential technology resources to underserved communities.
