Registration is officially open for the 2022 Northern Michigan Startup Week, scheduled for May 9-15. This week of events is organized collaboratively by a variety of “local startup and tech ecosystem leaders,” and will celebrate entrepreneurship and innovation in Traverse City through a variety of panels, pitch competitions, informational sessions, and more. Most Northern Michigan Startup Week events are free and open to the public.

Two Detroit organizations with a focus on further catalyzing small business development efforts in the area are joining forces. Hatch Detroit, a retail and restaurant incubator initiative, will now be housed within TechTown Detroit, a Midtown neighborhood-based small business support organization affiliated with Wayne State University, according to a news release.

So we know that with the pandemic a lot of businesses, when it came to applying for assistance, whether that was relief grants or other kinds of relief loans, a lot of that required a lot of financial documents. Government Technology: Advocates Call for Funding for Michigan Broadband Office
A group of rural Michigan advocates are urging state lawmakers to fund and staff the Michigan High-Speed Internet Office. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer created the office in June 2021 with the aim of expanding broadband internet access to more residents. But the office as yet has no budget and therefore no fulltime staff.
Detroit News: RMC raises $1.35M for local charities; 82,500 more Detroit homes have internet access
The 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic raised more than $1.35 million for local charities, the title sponsor of Detroit’s PGA Tour stop announced Thursday morning.
Of that total, $805,000 was designated for the tournament’s Changing the Course initiative, which aims to end Detroit’s digital divided by 2025. When the initiative launched in 2020, about 40% of Detroit households had access to the internet; today, with the help of Changing the Course and the federal Affordable Connectivity Program, that number is 67.5%.
