In this interview (English and Spanish), Verizon’s Jesus Roman, Associate General Counsel and Vice President of Government Affairs, speaks with the Emma Hernandez, Executive Director of the Southeast Community Development Corporation (SCDC), about the organization’s mission, programs, and benefits from its partnership with Verizon.

SCDC has served communities in Southeast Los Angeles since 1994, offering digital literacy training and technology resources for free or low-cost to those most in need of these resources.

SCDC has 19 years of community outreach experience and has developed strong partnerships with several hundred schools, churches, nonprofits, businesses, and community leaders.

In May 2020, we launched our Verizon Community Partnerships Initiative to celebrate Verizon-supported community organizations and highlight their important work.

Our latest Community Partner interview is with Dr. Ilan Shapiro of AltaMed Health Services, an organization providing healthcare to underserved members of the Los Angeles community for nearly 50 years. We delve into the organization’s COVID-19 response through outdoor testing centers and the importance of telehealth, especially in the Latinx community.

We’re extremely proud of this new Verizon partnership that is serving the healthcare needs of 1,000+ individuals a day and is making a significant impact in our community.
