Two Detroit organizations with a focus on further catalyzing small business development efforts in the area are joining forces. Hatch Detroit, a retail and restaurant incubator initiative, will now be housed within TechTown Detroit, a Midtown neighborhood-based small business support organization affiliated with Wayne State University, according to a news release.

Detroit News: RMC raises $1.35M for local charities; 82,500 more Detroit homes have internet access
The 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic raised more than $1.35 million for local charities, the title sponsor of Detroit’s PGA Tour stop announced Thursday morning.
Of that total, $805,000 was designated for the tournament’s Changing the Course initiative, which aims to end Detroit’s digital divided by 2025. When the initiative launched in 2020, about 40% of Detroit households had access to the internet; today, with the help of Changing the Course and the federal Affordable Connectivity Program, that number is 67.5%.

Recently released information from the Business Formation Statistics Report shows Michigan just missed the top ten in most business startups in 2021 of all 50 states, ranking No. 11 of all 50 states.
The state reached 150,465 business startups created in 2021, up from 130,081 in 2020 and the highest number since tracking began in 2004. Michigan had 59% more business startups in 2021 than before the pandemic in 2019 (150,465 compared to 94,433).
