White House kicks off ‘week of action’ on the Affordable Connectivity Program

The White House on Wednesday launched a “week of action” devoted to raising awareness and increasing enrollment in the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). That includes what the White House described as an “all of government” effort, in which various agencies are participating in outreach and enrollment, along with over 300 organizations, including nonprofits, local housing authorities and ISPs.

Federal Broadband Funding Report: These Agencies Are Funding Internet for All (Part II)

On May 8, 2023, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s Office of Internet Connectivity and Growth released its second annual report on federal broadband funding. The report summarizes and analyzes fiscal year 2021 (FY21— October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021) data collected from across the federal government, including the Federal Communications Commission’s Universal Service Fund (USF) programs.

Here’s who’s overseeing broadband efforts in each state

The U.S. federal government is preparing to dish out more than $45 billion in funding for broadband expansion through the $42.5 billion Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program; the $1 billion Enabling Middle Mile Broadband Infrastructure program; and the $1.5 billion State Digital Equity Act program. In an interesting twist, a majority of the funding is set to be doled out to the states, who will then be responsible for allocating it via competitive grant awards.
