Norwalk schools get hundreds of free Chromebooks from Verizon: ‘Breaks down the digital divide’
Hundreds of free Chromebooks for students across the district are closing a “digital divide” to make education equitable, local leaders said at a Roton Middle School device giveaway. Verizon Innovative Learning, partnered with Digital Promise, brings into the technological fold Roton, Brien McMahon and Norwalk high schools, the Center for Global Studies, and P-TECH Norwalk by supplying the data-enabled Chromebooks that all students can use without worrying about WiFi. The program costs an average of $2.3 million per school — as the five new schools join Concord Magnet School, Ponus Ridge STEAM Academy, and Nathan Hale Middle School, the program is valued at over $18 million. In the five new schools alone, Verizon Innovative Learning and Digital Promise provide 4,199 data-enabled devices to the district’s students.
