VIP Series: Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Business Expo

Verizon was proud to attend the 2023 Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Business Expo. At the event, we showcased Verizon’s Small Business Digital Ready Program. Attendees learned about the program, and how they could leverage this resource as a tool for success—especially in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

We’re proud to partner with GWHCC on incredible events like these—giving us the opportunity to engage with the local community and foster the success of Hispanic entrepreneurs in DC and beyond! VIP Series: KID Museum

Verizon is proud to debut our brand new series highlighting the important work of our Digital Equity Community Partners–working to equip the next generation of workers with the skills they need to thrive in the digital age. Today, we feature the KID Museum, based in Bethesda Maryland. The KID Museum empowers all DC Metro Area youth by teaching them the skills needed to invent the future by delivering engaging hands-on experiences at their state-of-the-art makerspace. During Verizon Family Day, over 600 students and families attended the museum for free learning through hands-on projects.

At the event, two Verizon Innovative Learning Schools (VILS) coaches demonstrated the technology used year round in their VILS and Verizon Innovative Learning labs. Six V-Teamers served as volunteer Workshop Mentors helping student “makers” design and build robots by reimaging discarded objects into basic circuits and switches.

Additionally, at Verizon Family Day, families were provided information on the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which assists eligible households in paying for internet services, ultimately supporting community members who need to connect to jobs, healthcare, and virtual classrooms. Verizon and KID Museum are committed to equity, access, and education for families across Montgomery County and the DC Metro Area. Watch the video to learn more!

Verizon @ Veterans Connection & Resource Fair

Hosted by the Barstow Community Coalition, Verizon attended the 2023 Veterans Connection & Resource Fair on Thursday, June 29. The Resource Fair is the largest in Barstow, attended by elected officials and nonprofits to provide valuable resources for community members and create a space to support veterans. ACP In the Community: Goodr

Earlier this month, Verizon and Goodr, a local non-profit, teamed up to run a mobile grocery store at the Andrew & Walter Young YMCA in Southwest Atlanta. With a shoppable 26-foot truck, the store was stocked to give 200 food insecure families food for a week.

In addition to free groceries, Verizon was also there – along with Safelink Wireless and the Diversity Cyber Council – to educate attendees about the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) as part of Online for All’s ACP Week of Action.

Verizon @ Celebrate Oak Park!

A few weeks ago, Verizon was proud to partner with multiple organizations to ‘Celebrate Oak Park!’ With over 30 vendors and 1,000 attendees, the event was a huge success!

Verizon team members were onsite to support “STEAM in the Park” by teaching young children AND adults how to make harmonicas out of popsicle sticks, straws, and rubber bands. There’s something incredibly rewarding about supporting the community and empowering our youth through STEAM education.

Verizon’s 5G Home/Verizon Enhanced Communities team was also on hand to share information about the 5G Home product and the Affordable Connectivity Program–and even signed up a few very excited customers!

Cheers to getting out in the community, celebrating the rich history of the Oak Park neighborhood in Sacramento, doing our part to bridge the digital divide, and engaging youth in hands-on STEM/STEAM learning. Check out the pictures below of this incredible event!

Cyber Seniors Program @ Brooklyn Public Library

The Verizon team had a great morning at the Brooklyn Public Library at the launch of their Cyber Seniors Program! Verizon understands that, in the digital age, it’s more important than ever that every individual—regardless of age—is able to navigate the online landscape. From paying bills to shopping to navigating telehealth visits, the online world can be daunting, especially for seniors.

That’s why the VZ team was on site to engage with over 50 participants on best practices online. VTeamers covered a whole range of tips and tricks with individuals looking to gain more insight into the technicalities behind their devices. The team covered social media, apps, sending emails, video chatting, text messages, cyber security and so much more! Through this event, Verizon was able to bridge an often overlooked but incredibly important portion of the digital divide—giving users of all ages the tools they need to not only succeed, but thrive, in the digital age.

Verizon looks forward to expanding this program in other parts of the region as part of its digital inclusion efforts. Check out pictures below to get a glimpse into this incredible event!
