Providence Journal: Up to $1.9 million in tax credits approved for electric boat motor maker to stay in RI

Rhode Island officials believe they have stopped Connecticut from poaching an electric outboard motor startup that now plans to build a factory in Bristol. The company, Flux Marine, announced Wednesday that it landed $15.5 million in private funding from investors lead by Ocean Zero and including early the Winklevoss twins.

WJAR: Results of study to promote and support for minority-owned businesses released

Commerce RI and the Rhode Island Foundation will release the results of a study on supporting minority-owned businesses on Friday. The results are part of a $150,000 study that will be used as a guide to help grow and support minority-owned businesses, according to a release from the Rhode Island Foundation.

Brown Daily Herald: Brown Research Club hosts ‘Underrepresented in STEM’

The Brown Research Club hosted an event called “Underrepresented in STEM” on Sunday, which featured speakers Oludurotimi Adetunji, the associate dean of the college for undergraduate research and inclusive science, and Cel Welch GS, a PhD candidate doing research in biomedical engineering and founder and CEO of a nonprofit called Queer Engineer International.

Government Technology: What’s New in Digital Equity: RI Lawmakers Call for Broadband Council

Three Rhode Island state lawmakers are calling for the creation of a new broadband advisory council. The call came at the end of a press release in which the lawmakers — Reps. Deborah Ruggiero, Lauren H. Carson and Terri Cortvriend — questioned whether investments by the private sector were enough to actually get residents connected in the state’s Aquidneck Island area. The creation of the advisory council was the big ask within this questioning.
