ACP support sees sign of life in the House
A sign of life for the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) emerged in the House of Representatives this week with the introduction of a new bill that would extend that program and further fund the FCC’s rip-and-replace program. The House bill, introduced by Representatives Nikki Budzinski (D-IL) and Mike Carey (R-OH), is a companion bill to the Senate’s Secure and Affordable Broadband Extension Act (S.4317), introduced in May. The Senate bill, introduced by Senators Ben Ray Luján (D-NM), J.D. Vance (R-OH), Peter Welch (D-VT), Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Jacky Rosen (D-NV), would fund the ACP with $6 billion, cut the program’s one-time $100 device subsidy and further restrict eligibility. It would also provide $3 billion for the FCC’s rip-and-replace program.
